Essential Cat Care for a Happy, Healthy Life
Cats make wonderful companions, but owning one is a long-term commitment with an average lifespan of 15-20 years. Before bringing a cat or kitten home, check with your local council about regulations such as curfews, desexing, and microchipping.
Provide your cat with a safe and comfortable space, such as a basket or enclosure. Indoor cats benefit from a scratching post to keep claws healthy and avoid furniture damage. A litter tray should be kept clean and placed in a quiet area, with one tray per cat plus one extra if needed.
Exercise is essential for cats, whether outdoors with trees or fences or indoors with furniture, scratching posts, or a cat gym. Grooming is necessary, especially for long-haired cats, to prevent matting and hairballs, which can lead to health issues if untreated.
Feed your cat small, frequent meals with high-quality food suited to their age and health. Always provide fresh water and avoid cow’s milk, which can upset their stomach. Regular health checks, vaccinations, flea and worm control are essential for preventing serious health problems.
We recommend scheduling at least one vet visit a year to discuss nutrition, behaviour, and life-stage care.
